Sandy Vance: Associate Director of Education and Parent Engagement Among Sandy's many talents is her capacity for building and managing public, private and community support for investment in early childhood education, comprehensive parent outreach/involvement and leadership development. Her early experience in education includes Montessori School Director and teaching at the pre-school and elementary levels in suburban and inner city schools, facilitating staff development, and evaluating curriculum and professional development materials. As Program Administrator for Foundations, Inc., she coordinated an after school program at nine Philadelphia High Schools, and managed the Supplemental Educational Services Program in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Sandy has been active in many civic, community and professional organizations where she has served in leadership capacities.

Karliss M. Akins: Information and Referral Specialist It must be his southern roots that give Karliss his unparalleled ability to relate to everyone who walks through KidZone’s doors. A native of Nashville, Tennessee, Karliss has built a career of service to high school-aged youth. He previously worked at Freedom Schools Philadelphia, where he worked as a college monitor for three years, and then as a counselor and activities coordinator with the After School All Stars. Now at KidZone, Karliss provides information and referral services to external and internal partners and members. Karliss is the father of two-year-old Kayla and is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree from the Community College of Philadelphia.

Fred Bostwick: Associate Director: Community InitiativesFred comes to KidZone following 35 years of service with the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, the last 20 of which were as Director of Community Services for the Philadelphia County Assistance Office. Throughout his career, Fred has served on many advisory boards and committees, including the boards of Pathways PA, United Way of Southeastern PA Fund Distribution Committee, and the Latino Work Force Development Task Force. Currently Fred provides guidance to The Rainbow Endowment, the Delaware Valley Legacy Fund, and, by appointment by Governor Rendell, the State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and Professional Counselors.

Foluké Bennett: Program Manager: the Parent/Teacher Zone![]() Foluké is a native Philadelphian who comes to KidZone from DC SCORES, a youth development and afterschool program that uses soccer and creative writing to reach more than 700 children in the Washington DC public schools. While attending college at the University of Maryland, Foluké worked as the Assistant Director of Maryland National Parks and Planning afterschool program. She became involved with the National Green Circle Program as a Core Facilitator of diversity and conflict resolution workshops with school age children and adults. Foluké also worked as the Program Coordinator for the Hoop Dreams Scholarship Fund managing their mentoring and internship programs. Glenna Deekle: Associate Director of Civic Engagement Glenna Deekle joined KidZone in June 2006 after moving to the area with her husband and two children from Baltimore. Glenna received her MSW from the University of Maryland, where she served as a Welfare-to-Work Job Readiness Counselor and Sanitation Community Organizer while maintaining a full-time accounting position at a local business. After receiving her degree she worked for the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s Making Connections Initiative in Camden, NJ and Louisville, KY. Glenna loves to entertain in her home. Whether an intimate dinner for 8 or a celebration for 30, she throws a party like no other.
